Trends come and go, especially when the Internet is concerned. Sometimes online trends last as long as years and sometimes they only last a few hours or a few days. To the Internet marketer, this can get a little confusing, especially when trying to decide what popular search terms they want to market, if any.
Long term trends can make money over time even though they might be a little slow to take off or catch on. If a niche is very popular however, even for a short period of time and the marketer starts campaigning that niche first, then there is the potential to see some very positive results. But is marketing short term trends a good idea and should marketers focus on them?
The answer to that question is really two-fold because there are a couple different ways to explain it. Common sense would say that short term trends are not worth it because the money is going to fade out as soon as the trend goes away and if that happens in a few days, then what’s the point? However, there is another side to making money with short term trends that is a little more positive.
The key is getting a website up and running and the information on the trend posted before the trend fades away. A marketer also has to either get a pay per click ad running on the first page of the search engine results or have a blog that is organically ranked well enough to show up on the first page when the Internet user searches for the slowly dying trend. If this can be done and things fall into place correctly, then focusing on short term trends might not be a bad idea.
It is important to remember that short term popular terms are going to be hit and miss. Sometimes the marketer will make it and get everything in line and sometimes they won’t. Due to that, a backup plan (preferably a long term niche or two) should be in place so that the marketer is not constantly scrambling so they can make money.
